This Is Your Master List!
This is the master list post for your Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night stories! Original challenge prompt:

I'll update the post throughout the day with completed stories, and then you can read them! YAY! And don't forget to feedback your friendly neighborhood authors. (If you're not going to have a story done today, that's totally okay (I mean, I totally don't have my story done at all, because I'm a rotten challenge mod); just comment when you get it posted, and I'll update the post as soon as I can. Unlike today, I will not be spending every day from here on out parked on the couch watching basketball for 12 straight hours. Just, uh. Today. And tomorrow.)

Sign-up Post: Second Annual Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night Fic Challenge!
AND HERE IT IS: The Second Annual Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night Fic Challenge!

The deal: behind the cut tag are 45 major sports stories from 2007. There are links to relevant overviews for each story. (Big props to oriolegirl, who collated a huge number of these links for me.)

What you do: survey the stories behind the cut tag; comment in this post with the number/description of the story you'd like to claim.

What I do: mark that story as claimed. Claiming will run until we run out of prompts. (There can also be doubling up on prompts, if necessary, although I'd like to get all the prompts claimed by one person before we go back and double up.)

Then we all: take that story and use it as a starting point for a Sports Night fic. You don't have to know anything about sports to write for this challenge! I promise! The fic you write doesn't have to be about the sports story you've chosen; you can use that story in any way you see fit, as long as there's a tie between your fic and the story you've claimed.

But I don't know anything about sports! You don't need to, I promise -- a quick survey of the attendant links will give you everything you need to know! But if you want help answering questions about sports, email me at minervacat at gmail and I'll do my best to connect you with more links or someone who can answer your questions.

Due dates? Ack! Stories are due March 20, the opening day of the NCAA tournament. This is a challenge, not an exchange, so I won't be running you down if you don't get something finished, but I might cry a little if we don't get many fics. On the 20th, I will post a Master List of who claimed what sports story, and you can link me to your fic, posted on your own livejournal or webspace. Minimum 750 words.

Other Questions? Yes, I know that this list is U.S.-centric -- because Sports Night is a U.S. sports show. If there's something not on my list that you'd like to write, go for it -- but compiling this list was hair-tearing-out enough as it was, and I didn't even know where to start with things like cricket or European soccer.

Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night: 2007!
I'm soliciting interest -- though it's pretty much a go as of now -- and prompt ideas for 2007 Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night over here, so if you're interested in writing or you've got a great story to suggest that I might miss otherwise, head over and fill out the poll and/or leave me a comment.

Last year we had 30 prompts; I'm shooting for 50 this year, and I'm woefully low on NBA, NFL, and NHL prompts, in addition to having nothing in smaller sports, so if you've got something good to give, hit me up.

ONE WEEK!
This is your ONE WEEK notice! A week from today, the first game of the NCAA men's basketball tournament tips off! (You all already know this, because you called in sick and stayed home to watch conference tournaments all day today and tomorrow, right? Not that I left work early so I could see the end of the Clemson/Florida State game or anything.)

And a week from today, you post your Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night stories! On Thursday the 15th, I'll make a post -- probably just after midnight EST, so very early in the morning anywhere in Europe -- that will serve as the master list post. Then you, after posting your stories in your own journals or on your own webspace, will link me to those stories.

I am not picky about headers, etc (everyone does it their own way), but when you comment to the Master List post, please include the following: URL/link for the story; title of the story; prompt you claimed in the original sign-up post. If you didn't claim a prompt and wrote a story with another event, summarize your event in one sentence for me and include that. I'll keep the post up-to-date (I'll be sitting at home watching basketball and drinking beer all day) as people comment, and then you can read LOTS AND LOTS of Sports Night stories all weekend.

And how exciting will that be? REALLY EXCITING, I TELL YOU WHAT.

(If you still need a beta for sports-related issues, check out this post and see if one of those people can help you. They're all really nice, I promise!)

So. Last four teams who gets bids to the tournament. Go.

[TWO WEEKS! TWO WEEKS!]
This is your TWO WEEKS THIRTEEN DAYS warning! In thirteen days, the NCAA men's basketball tournament tips off, and you post your Putting Their Sports Back In Sports Night stories! Hooray! (There's no such thing as a late story, either; I'd love to have lots of stuff for March 15, but I'll keep adding to the master list as people finish. But the 15th! Aim for the 15th!)

How's everybody doing? Did you see the list of sports betas that I posted earlier this week? Have any thoughts on Florida's weird collapse? (Thoughts on Carolina's weird collapse unwelcome, mostly because they will make your friendly neighborhood mod weep and rend her garments.) Thoughts on who's going to win the NL Central this year? Anything I can do for you guys?

SPORTS BETAS!
I said I would line this up, and I have -- sorry about the delay, my laptop's screen unceremoniously gave up the ghost yesterday before I could post this.

Behind the cut are the names and contact information of people who are willing to "sports beta" your stories for you! If you have questions about sports details, trivia, etc, check behind this cut tag and feel free to contact one of the people listed here, one of the people who's offered your sport in question. Preferred contact method is listed here, and do be sure to identify yourself if you contact one of these guys, because they're all nice people and you wouldn't want to startle them. *grin*

This is your ONE MONTH warning! One month!
Okay, kids -- you have ONE MONTH until your Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night stories are supposed to be posted! One month from today! March 15! I hope things are coming along well for you -- or at least you haven't forgotten completely about this challenge. *grin*

Now that I'm out from under the craziness of 14valentines, I'm going to be emailing everyone who offered, directly or obliquely, to "sports beta" these stories with more information about what people might need from you, as well as a few requests for contact information and so on and so forth, so keep your eyes peeled for those emails if you offered or think you might have offered; and, as always, if you offered and don't have the time now to take this on, it's totally okay. I am v. easy going about this junk. (And if you'd still like to offer, leave a comment on this entry with an email address, and I'll contact you, too!)

Once I've wrangled all that information, I'll make a post here with information about who's willing to read your stories and beta for sports information -- hopefully in the next two weeks. I might have to sleep, first.

Any questions? Concerns? Thoughts on the Pac-10 conference race? Feelings about Kevin Pittsnogle's flagging professional career? Need someone to flail at about pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training? Hit me.

Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night!
I promised, and now I deliver! The First (Possibly Annual) Putting The Sports Back In Sports Night Fic Challenge.

The deal: behind the cut tag are 30 major sports stories from 2006 (and one from January 1, 2007). There are links to relevant overviews for each story.

What you do: survey the stories behind the cut tag; comment in this post with the number/description of the story you'd like to claim.

What I do: mark that story as claimed.

That's why we've got "sports betas" lined up -- people who do know and who are willing to help you out. When it gets closer to due date time, I'll post a list of people you can contact for sports help. (And if you don't want to sign up for the challenge but you're willing to answer questions about [basketball, cycling, tennis, etc], send me an email [minervacat at gmail dot com] and I'll add you to the list.)

Due dates? Ack! Stories are due March 15, the opening day of the NCAA tournament. This is a challenge, not an exchange, so I won't be running you down if you don't get something finished, but I might cry a little if we don't get many fics. On the 15th, I will post a Master List of who claimed what sports story, and you can link me to your fic, posted on your own livejournal or webspace.
